It brought clean, good-tasting water from the mountains over 315 trestles to the East County. Today few traces of the original flume remain, but a monument to the great San Diego Flume was dedicated on August 22, 1981. A bronze plaque tells the story of the flume, and some of the old redwood sections can be seen in a small outdoor display area outside the water treatment plant.
