It's a little cold out there.
Let me get a jacket.
I was raised in a small town so I never was really around art.
In fact I hadn't gone to my first art museum until I was in my late 30s.
Come on, girls.
No, you're not going to come, are you.
The Cincinnati Art Museum became a client of mine for media buying and so I would go over there for meetings a lot and just being around all that art and looking at it just I guess I got the art bug and from that point on I decided to start collecting art.
I collect all different genres and all different mediums.
I have quilts, fabric pieces, paintings sculpture, I have collage.
I have photography.
I'm all over the gambit.
I gravitate towards art that is politically charged, has emotions in it.
It says something.
This artist Shelley Brenner Baird is using old discarded political signs that you know all of us see all the time every time there's an election there's this side, that side, this cause, that cause and I like that she started out with the 19th Amendment to the Constitution which gave women the right to vote This is actually the second work that I acquired by Carolyn Mazloomi.
This piece is also of Billy Holiday.
When she finished her set of music it would get dark and she'd sing this song, Strange Fruit I see beauty in this with her singing but there's also a lot of violence with the KKK, with people being lynched.
This is something that occurred in history but violence against Black people is still happening today.
This work is by artist Carolyn Crump and it represents men and women that had been killed at the hands of police people.
They were innocent and should not have been killed.
Another work in the collection is Shark Girl created by the artist Casey Riordan.
When she was young, she was afraid of sharks so she decided to make a shark character that was happy, friendly and so she created Shark Girl.
Well I had asked Casey to do a boxing shark girl for me 'cause I had just taken up boxing as a sport.
She researched the first female boxers and in the 1800s women used to box in the streets of London in skirts, pumps and they would box without gloves.
Another piece in the collection is a relatively new acquisition.
It's by an artist from England.
Her name is Lucy Sparrow and she makes everything by hand and felt.
These are everyday household products like aspirin, perfume, scissors.
She's got a Q-tip here so she makes everything by hand in their fabric pieces.
This piece is called Memorial to a Marriage by Patricia Cronin and she lives in New York with her wife Deborah Kass.
The piece just spoke to me because I have a wife.
You know everyone should be entitled to get married if they want to, no matter who you are you should be able to marry the person that you care about and the person that you love.
These pieces are by a local emerging artist.
Her name is Bailey Schmidt.
Bailey has set out to crochet everything she could remember from her childhood home.
I love the microwave.
I love how the handle sticks out from the piece.
When I meet artists I love to sometimes commission them to do works.
This piece reminds me of my mom 'cause my mom loved coffee and this was how she had her coffee.
It was a thing called an old percolator.
I'm an only child and my mom was my best friend.
There was nothing that that we couldn't talk about.
You know we had a really close bond\ and she died really young and it devastated me.
You know, I just wanted to do things in her name and in her honor.
There's a wing named after my mother in the Cincinnati Art Museum the Patricia A. Vance Gallery.
One of the things about that gallery is it had a Mary Cassatt Mother and Child in it just reminded me of our relationship.
My mom does live on but mostly she obviously lives on in my heart so that's just important to me.
