Henry: I've been through a lot of bands that we formed.
I started off with--as a duet Cecilio and Kapono.
And then we broke off and then I started doing my own thing.
Took a little--took a while to build back, but, you know, it was worth it.
You know, so, and I've gone--I've had a lot of musicians.
I think Lopaco my percussion player has been with me the longest, yeah.

Henry: My musical influences: a lot.
You know, James Taylor, Crosby Stills, Nash, and Young, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, you know, all the good guys, but--and at home, there was this guy called Kui Lee who wrote Tiny--no he didn't write --, but he wrote "I'll Remember You" for Don Ho.
And he was one of my inspirations locally.

Henry: Little Grass Shack, it's a little different.
I wrote that during 2020.
Takes a little kazoo.
I can tell you the story.
When I wrote it, my--I told my wife I was gonna use a kazoo for the instrumental and she said, "No, no, no, not a kazoo, a trumpet or a saxophone."
So, I recorded it anyway with the kazoo.
And when I played it back for her, she went, "Oh that sounds pretty good."
So, it's a fun song.

I was thinking about, you know, while we were all locked up, I was thinking about going back to Duke's on Sunday and get on the beach, have a party with everybody.
So, I started thinking about it, dreaming about it, and I wrote this song called "Sunshine Revival."

You know, I got a friend that lives on the--on this island.
Lives right on the street--up the street.
We become very good friends for a few years now.
He fell in love with the music and so, I'd like to bring him out right now.
He's played for the Padres for about four years and then he started coaching.
He went up to San Francisco.
And so, I got into private school playing baseball, so it was real interesting talking to him about baseball.
So, I'd like to bring him up, my dear friend Tim Flannery.

So, they're playing for everything tomorrow.
I think Henry needs to get in the uniform.

I played two years in Hawaii.

So, I fell in love with these guys and I was stalking them then, but just now he finally knows me well enough to actually say he's stalking me.
And I looked at the guy back there ran and I go, "All right, I've got past that point where he cares.
Now he's gonna let me have it."

Henry: Sailing is a song that I wrote for my dad.
That's one of my favorite songs because I always feel like he's with me when I'm singing a song.
So, yeah, that's what some music can do is as a songwriter, you know, when you write something you know where you were and, you know, even when people listen to it, you know where you were, but it just takes you back to that place and most of my shows, I take people back to where, you know, the good times.
So, it's fun.
Henry: When I was a little kid, my dad was smoking a cigarette, so I asked him, "Dad, why are you smoking a cigarette?"
He goes, "Well son, I smoke a cigarette for company."
But that went over my head.
And a few years later, I went sailing with some friends.
I always wanted to write a song for my dad because he taught me so much.
I kept watching the captain of the ship and how conscientious he was about everybody being safe and he knew everything about the weather, everything about the ocean.
And I just kept watching him and just thinking about my dad.
My dad never sailed in his life.
I never called him Jackson because that was the captain of this ship.
He was a great captain.
