♪♪♪ ♪♪♪ Mireya Ramos: The idea was sparked by my own experience playing Mariachi in New York city.
I saw myself being one of the only female-playing mariachi in that scene for a long, long time.
And that's why I felt like the need to create a group and a space for women to come together, create together.
Prior to Flor de Toloache I had also met Shae Fiol which is the cofounder of Flor de Toloache.
And we just clicked.
Shae Fiol: I was pretty much done with producing my first album, my debut solo album.
And right as I was finishing it up, she was like hey I'm going to start an all women mariachi, do you want to be part of it?
And I was like, well I think so.
I mean, I've never played Mariachi, I didn't grow up listening to Mariachi.
Mireya: She was totally down.
She had never played mariachi before.

And Las Caras Lindas was the album in 2017 that won the Latin Grammy for best Ranchera Album.
And we were the first all-women group to win in that category.
And the song that we're playing next we wrote as sort of our anthem of encouragement.
We wrote it for us, for the little girl inside or for the litte girls out there that we want to uplift.

With Mireya and I particularly, with where we come from, our love of all different kinds of music and styles of playing and singing.
So you'll get mariachi with all these other flavors in there.
A lot of younger generations see themselves in us.
We sing in English and Spanish.
We incorporate these other genres, and the younger generations have, in the states, have had more exposure to certain things.
So there's then, then they'll bring their mom or their grandma who loved traditional, and they will see a little bit of the traditional.
