Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowds, while Chief Executive Carrie Lam urged restraint by the protesters. Meanwhile, stocks in the U.S. plunged amid trepidation over the ongoing trade war with China. The Dow Jones lost 767 points and the NASDAQ dropped 278.
